How they met

Like any 21st century relationship worth its salt… it started with the internet. And no, it’s not what you think. It actually started in the age of dial-up internet, when Andrew was just a kid and developed his lifelong aversion to running. Fast forward to January of 2018. Andrew is looking for a way, - any way, really - to avoid running, and realizes a lot of the cool kids are getting into something called “spin.” So he hops on Google, searches “spin studios near me,” and while he didn’t know it at the time, that little keyword search would change his entire life. It started with the internet.

It started with the internet.
There was a studio just down the road from Andrew’s apartment, and they were offering an incredible discount to newbies looking to try it out. So he thought he’d give it a shot. After nearly throwing up in the first five minutes of class, he didn’t come back to the studio for more than three weeks. Determined to get his money’s worth on a month of unlimited classes, he took three more classes in only a few days, and was hooked. For those that don’t know, spin classes attract people of all different shapes, sizes, fitness levels, and ages.
However, one of its key demographics is the attractive 25-34-year-old women. The room is dark, the music is loud, and people in there move FAST. Seemed like a great place for Andrew to be (albeit, sitting in the back row trying to avoid eye contact with anyone while fighting for his life just trying to survive these classes). Now at this studio, there was an instructor named Kayla. She played excellent music, was a tremendous instructor, and, in Andrew’s own words, a total babe. Andrew would take Kayla’s evening classes fairly often, to the point where she had the audacity to move him to the front row of class. Was this some twisted way of flirting? Or was it just unique to have a guy who actually enjoyed these classes, and was, frankly, getting the hang of this spin thing? Whatever the reason, Andrew kept showing up, having an amazing time in Kayla’s classes, and apparently looked good enough riding a stationary bike to be asked about auditioning to teach.
So, we’ve made it to January of 2019, and Andrew and Kayla are now both instructors at the same studio. Co-workers, friends, a good-looking duo if they were in the same room, and that was about it. We can chalk it up to them not wanting to mix themselves up in a workplace relationship, but what we really mean is that they were both always too busy dating… hmmm… let’s just say…. less than stellar people.
True love stories never have endings.

Let’s jump to June of 2020, where, once again, like any 21st century relationship worth its salt… it was kicked into gear by tequila. On a night out to dinner and drinks with a few co-workers and friends from the studio, Andrew had his fair share of sweet, sweet, tequila. After making some very unsubtle comments about feelings for Kayla, she whisked him outside to essentially say, “ummm, what the $%&^ are you saying??” True to form, Andrew found a very roundabout, sincere, and cheesy way to finally get to it… “I’ve always loved you.”

Bomb. Dropped. Shortly thereafter, they shared their first kiss. Fire. Works. It was kicked into gear by tequila.
Now, we’re going to move quickly, because we can’t keep you here all day. Following this kiss, Andrew & Kayla met for brunch, talked about the previous night, and agreed to just remain friends, thinking it for the best.
As we know, however, actions speak louder than words. So, they proceeded to spend time together oh, probably five or six days a week, ultimately deciding that what they felt when they were together had to be pursued. In the coming months and years, they spent darn near every waking hour together, and began talking about forever and looking at engagement rings.

Gift Registry
If you feel so inclined to shower the newlyweds with gifts, the Future Mr & Mrs Matt have everything they need for their home. They would be delighted for a contribution to their honeymoon or their first home together. However, your attendance to their special day is the greatest gift of all.
All you are is all I’ll ever need.

The proposal

In February of 2022, Andrew & Kayla visited the island of Kauai, Hawaii. The second to last day of the trip, Andrew had a planned a hike ending at the bottom of a waterfall, with grand plans for an intimate proposal with just the two of them, or a few other hikers if push came to shove. What happened instead was a very fun adventure that involved Andrew & Kayla getting very lost, led back to the trail by three random dogs, and Andrew tumbling down a drop off, only to be saved by the backpack containing the ring. Needless to say, being covered in mud and having just survived a near death experience, he decided the moment for the proposal wasn’t quite right.
The next day, Andrew & Kayla had booked a sunset cruise excursion to cap off their trip. The risk: Andrew had a history of getting sea sick on small boats. The reward: leaving Hawaii engaged to the love of his life. For the last two hours of the cruise, Andrew was green in the face, drinking all of the ginger ale money could buy, and hoping to God or whoever is in charge around here, that he wouldn’t lose his lunch and have to postpone the proposal yet again. After managing to hold on (barely), they were approaching the end of the cruise: stopping the boat to enjoy the sunset. As sunset approached, there were whales swimming a short distance from the boat, and a rainbow appeared above the boat. You couldn’t have written it any better.
So, Andrew, who at this point has been visibly shaking “from the seasickness” and talking in very rushed and jittery sentences “from the cold breeze” about how he loves Kayla… Andrew walked with Kayla towards the edge of the boat, got on one knee, and what he said then… nobody remembers. All we know is that it ended with “Will you marry me?” Cue the uncontrollable sobbing. Cue the hugs and kisses. Cue the other cruisegoers clapping and cheering. And, most importantly, cue forever, together.

KAYLA
Here comes the Bride! If you have yet to meet the lady in white, she is a book-loving, plant-hoarding, dog mom of 4 who loves to find new craft projects and never finish them. Honestly, we're all surprised that the wedding website is up and fully finished. Ha! Kayla is artsy at heart and loves anything to get her creative juices flowing. She's originally from Portland, Oregon and after 5 minutes of chatting with her–you'll realize she's a little granola with a side of Chanel. Kayla grew up in the PNW with an older brother that loved to play hot wheels and video games with her late into the evening.

The
Bride
After 18 years in Oregon, Kayla made the move in her Volkswagen Beetle to Arizona where she attended Arizona State University. She studied French (oui, oui) and International Business. She also took useless classes about aliens, yoga, and anthropology but that's the American collegiate system for ya.
After graduating in 2012 with her BA, she moved to Dallas, TX where she really enjoyed standing out amongst the southerners and let's be honest, the low cost of living (RIP low cost of living). After 5 minutes in the corporate world, Kayla found her way to teaching fitness, spreading the word of body positivity and the power of movement on the mind. She currently teaches classes such as running, tabata, and barre across the Dallas metroplex at the best gym in the world–Equinox. When she's not yelling at people to go faster on their treadmills, she is a freelance graphic designer (hence the over-the-top wedding website) and social media consultant.
In her free time, you can catch Kayla reading on her Kindle, listening to an audiobook, buying books at Barnes & Noble, or updating her Goodreads account (which is, you guessed it, about books). Other than being book obsessed, Kayla loves plants, her pups, and food. Often, her first thought in the morning is "what's for dinner?”
When Kayla met Andrew, she thought he was a cutie patootie. Pretty sure she called him that, along with ‘Pookie.' She was not shy about her mini crush. It only took Andrew 2 1/2 years to take action and make a move. She still wakes up every single day in awe that she is marrying this amazing man. Shoutout to the Matts for raising the most incredible, loving, thoughtful life partner for Kayla.

To love or have loved, that is enough. Ask nothing more.

A
Meet our co-star of the day (mmm, maybe guest star), the Groom! Andrew, much like his father before him, is already counting down the days until retirement… thoughts and prayers he gets to some day! In the meantime, he does his best retiree impression by having a wealth of hobbies like reading, cooking, taking long walks, traveling, watching Jeopardy! or listening to the latest stories from The New York Times, walking the dogs, golfing, you name it. In other words, the guy is way too high strung but does his best job at trying to be pretend he’s super incredibly laid back. Well, he is, mostly.

ANDREW

The
Groom
Andrew was born and raised in Colleyville, a suburb of Dallas-Ft. Worth, venturing to the University of Oklahoma. His older sister attended OU during the four years Andrew was in high school, and she did a dang good job roping him in by taking him to his first OU football game and showing him what a weekend in college could be. While studying at OU (and the nerd studied PLENTY), Andrew worked towards a degree in Journalism/Public Relations. He still gets called a “spin doctor” by his close friends, despite not doing anything related to PR in quite literally six years.
After graduating in 2014, Andrew moved back to Colleyville, also attracted to the wealth of jobs, low cost of living (RIP low cost of living, it’s worth repeating), and sunny weather of the Dallas area.

They call it madness, we call it love.
He did find the lowest cost of living there is… his old childhood room at his dear mom and dad’s house, but after saving up money and getting settled in the working world, he eventually moved to Dallas, where he lived with one of his groomsmen, Zach, for several years.
These days, Andrew is working in a national business development role at one of the world’s largest commercial real estate firms, but let’s be honest, he works to live, he doesn’t live to work. The highlights of his typical day are cooking a delicious meal for Kayla, walking or smothering their dogs with affection, planning their next vacation, and hopefully getting some exercise or fresh air when he shuts his laptop for the day.
Andrew, never known for his bravery or risk taking, is very proud of the biggest risk he’s ever taken… spilling his guts about the crush that turned into feelings that turned into a real love for Kayla over 2 1/2 years of knowing each other. A bit of tequila may have encouraged him, but who can’t relate? If you didn’t know Andrew before Kayla, you’re in luck, he’s the happiest, best version of himself he has ever been. Never has he ever or will ever love someone like he loves Kayla. It will be a miracle if he can get the first two sentences of his vows out before the waterworks take over, so start placing your bets now.

The
bridal party
Throughout our lives, we have been blessed with the privilege of extraordinary friends and cherished family members. The love and unwavering support we have received from these incredible individuals have enriched our lives beyond measure, and we are deeply grateful to have such remarkable loved ones alongside us. As we eagerly anticipate exchanging our vows, we want to take a heartfelt moment to introduce the amazing friends and family who will stand by our side on our joyous and momentous day.
A
hers

Ashley
Meet Ashley Soso, the bride’s lovely Matron of Honor. Ashley & Kayla both grew up in Portland, Oregon and attended nearby high schools. They briefly knew of each other through mutual friends before leaving for college but never really connected until the following year when they both enrolled at Arizona State University (random!). Their mutual friend Angel (see bridesmaids 😉) informed them individually that they were both at the same college and should meet up. Little did they know they would become best friends for life.
The
Matron of Honor

The initial meeting on campus was hilariously awkward, to say the least. They texted back and forth until agreeing to meet up at Starbucks on campus in somewhat of a ‘blind' girl date since they had never truly met in person before. After chatting for a little while, they went their separate ways, not really feeling the vibes. They didn’t speak much for another three years. Fast forward to 2011, Ashley previously moved back to Portland to finish her degree at Portland State University, then moved back to Scottsdale for a job at Charles Schwab where the two finally reconnected.
Call it fate, call it right timing, but they were joined at the hip from then on. Thursday night happy hours at Jimmy Wu’s was their thing, weekend brunches with bottomless mimosas and so much gossip about Ashley‘s soon-to-be husband and Kayla’s too fun college years. Kayla would later on be included in Ashley’s wedding and the two would remain best friends until this day. Ashley still lives in Arizona with her husband, Evan, and their beautiful daughter, Jameson. One day, Ashley & Kayla will be old and wrinkly together giggling about the good ole days and remember these moments forever.

Lauren

Meet Lauren Woolery, one of Kayla’s besties who Kayla met at Lync cycling years ago via their
mutual friend, Shannon Ratcliff. Lauren keeps Kayla social and drags her to outings when she feels like laying on the couch. They share a love of plants, EDM music, exercise, and cocktails. They also love to b*tch about the current state of the world and the war against women and plot the takedown of the patriarchy. You’ll often find these too laughing hysterically at inside jokes or binge watching Iliza Shlesinger’s Netflix specials. It‘s never a dull moment with Kayla & Lo.

Angel

Meet Dr. Angel Lightner, one of Kayla’s closest friends and longest friendships. Angel & Kayla met in 2006, Kayla was 16, Angel was 17 and they were both addicted to tanning. Angel worked at the best tanning studio and town where Kayla would tan sometimes 2x a day (we know better now 😂) and they quickly became friends. The duo would use ridiculous fake IDs to tour the Portland bars and cause trouble and stayed good friends throughout college, Angel’s medical school and residency through today where they finally both live in the same city again after 12 years apart. 15 years of friendship and so many laughs later, Angel is a beautiful bridesmaid here because she is an incredible lifelong friend. Angel lives in a gorgeous home in Mansfield and is an OB/GYN and partner of a medical practice in Waxahachie, TX.

Devyn
Devyn

Meet Devyn Kerr, wife to Wilson Kerr (a groomsman you'll learn more about below). Devyn and Kayla met that faithful weekend that Andrew professed his love for Kayla, over 3 years ago. The quad (Andrew, Kayla, Wilson, & Devyn) spend a lot of their time together doing couple-friend things such as sharing beers at the local brewery, having drinks while watching their favorite shows like Succession, going to concerts and taking shots, and going poolside with a margarita. JK, we don't just drink together. But they are some of our best couple friends. We have shared a lot of memories together and Kayla felt so welcomed by Devyn and her husband into their friend group. Devyn is a local to Dallas, Texas and went to college with Andrew, her husband, and the rest of the boys below. She studied Ballet and is an amazing dancer.
Today she lives with her husband (they just bought their first home-congrats!), their dog Franklin, and their cat Gal. Kayla just KNEW that Devyn had to be a bridesmaid in their wedding because of how close they have grown over the past few years. Can't wait to see what happens over the next 50 years!

Sydney
Meet Sydney Rohwer, aka Syddles, little nugget, cutie patootie, etc. Kayla often refers to Sydney as the little sister she never had. Partially due to their age difference (11 years) but also because they have a sisterly bond that has grown over the past 5+ years. Kayla & Sydney met at, can you guess? ... Lync Cycling! Haha it's where a lot of Kayla's friendships flourished. Sydney got a job at the front desk of their cycling studio and immediately bonded.

Kayla took to Sydney like a big sister, always looking out for her and teaching her all the things (mostly telling her about Kayla's mistakes so she wouldn't make them herself). Sydney lets Kayla and Andy nurture her, inviting her over for dinners, taking her out on her birthdays, and trusting her to watch their pack of doggos while they take vacations.
His
J

JaCK
Meet Jack Ryan, the groom’s taller, smarter, funnier, better-looking Best Man. At least he’s probably like, SUPER uncomfortable in airplane seats. Loser. Alas, we digress before we’ve even begun.
Like any good friendship, Andrew & Jack were brought together by a few happy coincidences … and Sylvester Stallone. Despite living hours apart in the geographically separate yet equally dystopian states of Texas and Oklahoma, being one year apart in school, and Jack being the valedictorian of his high school class when Andrew graduated a mere 14th, they both found themselves attending the University of Oklahoma, and joining the same fraternity in their freshman years.
The
Best Man

One day in the fall of 2011, Jack found himself wandering their fraternity house and walked in upon a what has to be a sight forever burned into his memory – Andrew sitting alone in the room he shared with his roommates Wilson and Bryce (more about that Wilson guy later in the Groomsmen section), sitting on their very purple couch, intense stare on his face because he was very, very into… watching the 2010 smash hit The Expendables.
The two of them began chatting, and Andrew decided to bail on the movie approximately 12 minutes in. While Andrew has never watched a minute of that cinematic dumpster fire since, fortunately, he hasn’t been able to get rid of Jack since, either. Their friendship grew throughout college, peaking when Jack moved into the townhome that Colin (yup, the Colin further down the groomsmen section) and Andrew shared. After managing to survive fighting every night over the thermostat they shared for an entire academic year, it became clear this friendship wasn’t going anywhere.
While we can’t count evert single one of the highs, lows, and in-betweens they’ve shared over the years, this we do know – Andrew and Jack have made some amazing memories together, including stellar trips, unforgettable concerts, movies (the amazing, the terrible, and the so terrible they’re amazing), day drinks, great meals, game days, road trips, and the occasional skiing-related injury. May their bones remain strong and their friendship forever stronger.

Colin
Meet Colin, who, let’s get it out of the way now… looks exactly like a more handsome Aaron Rodgers
(like, the 2010s Aaron Rodgers before he went on darkness retreats). Colin marks the second of four groomsmen who were Andrew’s fraternity brother at OU, which is a miracle in itself given how many of their fraternity brothers Andrew and his friends would be perfectly content never seeing again. However, Colin and Andrew were able to easily bond over their love of sports, video games, tequila, straight to SyFy movies, and much more. Colin’s undeniable kindness, big heart, and rock steady nature are so obvious to everyone close to him, and a big reason why Andrew looks up to him in so many ways. Frankly, the only thing wrong with Colin is that his beard is so incredibly perfect it really makes us all look bad (okay not everyone, but definitely Andrew). In addition to being a stellar human being towards everyone he meets, Colin is a loving husband to wife Sarah and the world’s raddest dad to daughter Mackenzie. Go OU football, basketball, softball, gymnastics, and OU everything, forever.

Wilson

Meet Wilson, one of Andrew’s fraternity brothers and college roommates (geez we’re three for three here). Like Jack – it took happy coincidences to lead them both to the same school, the same fraternity, and heck even the same dorm hallway their freshman year. Andrew and Wilson became incredibly talented at complaining about their respective roommates to each other, which eventually involved into an incredible talent to complain about the other one when they became roommates their sophomore year. To this day, they still jab at each other slightly north of as often as friends should, but remain as close as ever 13+ years later. After Andrew and Kayla say I do – Andrew & Wilson can celebrate witnessing another tremendous milestone in each other’s lives, the only one that’s really missing now is an OU football national championship. Sure, they’ve seen each other through some lows, too – lost keys, absolutely bananas
ex-girlfriends, and plenty of tough moments in between, but that’s part of what makes their friendship so strong. In their old age, you can expect Andrew and Wilson to continue singing their favorite Blink-182 songs and constantly fact checking each other’s stories when they reminisce on the good times over a glass of good whiskey.

Ryan
Meet Ryan, who embodies one of the greatest versions of the friendship story – the arch nemesis
turned best friend. Andrew and Ryan met all the way back in high school. In a clear attempt to model himself after Andrew, Ryan joined the tennis team, excelled in choir, and had an incredibly voluminous head of brown, swoopy hair like Andrew circa 2004ish - 2012ish. Andrew, clearly threatened by this only slightly younger version of himself, made fun of Ryan relentlessly for said swoopy hair, but, more importantly, his Ed Hardy jeans and shirts (IYKYK). After consistently being at each other’s throats, something shifted, and Andrew realized this Ryan guy wasn’t so bad. In fact, over the years, he came to realize Ryan is one of the GOATs when it comes to being a steadfast friend. While they have PLENTY in common, Andrew and Ryan have always been comfortable challenging each other, debating on everything from economics to Drake’s newest song, and, maybe most importantly, being there to pick each other up when they need it most. Andrew may have “used to hate” Ryan, but now they’ll have both cried at each other’s weddings (probably) and will be lifelong friends (definitely). Funny how life works out. Ryan is an adoring husband to Kelly and a dedicated dog dad to their pups, Samson and Kunu (it means Chuck).

Derek
Meet Derek, the oldest, errrr patriarch, errrr HOA president, no, no, that’s not it either… well, Derek brings some really important things to the group and Andrew’s life – not just being the target of jokes about his age (let the record show he is all of three years older than Andrew). While Andrew

and Derek were (you guessed it) in the same fraternity at OU, they’d probably admit they had a wealth of mutual friends in college, but not much of a close friendship themselves. Fortunately, Derek has become one of Andrew’s closest friends, frequently helping host watch parties for the newest episode of whatever HBO’s latest hit is, allowing friends to share in the fruits of his Turner Classic Movie Wine Club membership, and just being a genuinely good person to look up to – so long as you ignore that time someone cut him off while he was on an electric scooter. One day, Derek and Andrew may take sabbaticals from work and finally gather definitive proof that Bigfoot exists – but until then, at least they have a heck of a friendship no matter where it takes them.

Zach
Meet Zach, Andrew’s roommate of four years shortly after Andrew had finished school at OU
and Zach had rejoined civilian life after serving in the United States Marine Corps. Despite attending high school together, it wasn’t until their adult lives that Andrew and Zach truly began to get to know each other and form a close friendship. When they took the leap and became roommates, there were plenty of late nights watching The Wire, hours in the gym, video games played, ski trips taken, and countless memories made. It was while living together that Zach met his wife to be Emily, and Andrew met Kayla. One of Zach’s many incredible qualities is that he is perhaps the most faithful friend on earth, and in addition to his quick wit, he’s also the quickest to be there when a friend needs him. Fortunately, they have both entered a season of life where their friendship can focus on trips to Wabi House, the occasional online game of Xbox, and enjoying laughs no matter what. Zach is also the loving dad to one of the world’s friendliest golden retrievers, the aptly named Buddy.

Tory

Meet Tory, who, unlike the guy they were talking about in that song by The Killers, did look a bit like Jesus a few haircuts ago. Tory also attended OU, but didn’t meet Andrew until after they had both graduated and found themselves living and working in Dallas. Tory is known for being incredibly kind and thoughtful, but fortunately or unfortunately he’s also been known to make his group of friends a round of delicious shots during a game day, movie night, or dinner party. He isn’t just fun, though, Tory fiercely loves his family and friends, is always making sure the people around them have what they need, and the friend who relentlessly cleans the AirBnb during a group vacation. In short, he is the glue that helps keep people together and ensure they are always taken care of. While they may have taken their time to meet, Andrew now counts Tory as a lifelong friend and someone whose friendship he will always appreciate.
